I’m Kayla,

I can help you name your baby.

I have a strange background that lends itself to this specific type of work and I’ve built a proprietary approach to guide you to YOUR best name. My approach is never to dictate or direct your name choices -- but to help you uncover what YOU like, what YOU want, and what will invoke the desired spirit and sentiment for your unborn child.

I am most natively a writer, a people observer and behaviorist, a linguist, and a scholar of names, words, identities, stories, and human perspective. I’ve always been paying attention to the way culture adopts and adapts to words, names, and language in general.

My college degree is in Education and Linguistics. I worked with children in my teens and early adulthood and observed a lot of “name dynamics” in many, varied school environments. By that time, I was already a published poet and an essayist as well. I ran a lit mag for a period of time in the early 2010s. I was always embroiled in language, words, people, names, identities.

I then spent many years (until 2023) as a Brand and Content Strategist for companies -- which included a lot of copywriting, wordsmithing, and naming. I have named many companies or brands, programs, events, products, and more.

I’m now a spiritual guide and self discovery coach as well as running this consulting program. I help my students find, accept, align with and express themselves fully. I work with identity and life path and spiritual deliverance, so I have a close proximity to how people feel about their names and themselves.

Discovering Your Needs & Preferences

I take you through a process of questions, exercises, and reaction activities to get a clear picture of what you want, what your limitations are, which family members we’re honoring, or any other stipulations, dislikes, icks, irks, or ideologies involved.

My Naming Approach

Exploring or Creating Options

I will provide many lists of names for you over the course of our program. I usually start with a list of 25-40 names and we refine that to 15, 10, and then 4-6 names. However, some families need to see a lot more names to find their perfect fit.

Refining and Refocusing

I have built a process to take you through your own feedback, to identify what you DO and DO NOT like about each name -- we explore every angle. I also make sure any shortlisted names pass certain viability and culture fit tests.

Finalizing, Anointing, and Celebrating

Once we arrive at a shortlist of 4-6 names, we will have an initial celebration. However, once you choose a singular name and your baby has arrived, you will also receive a custom celebration gift in the mail and I will write an anointing poem for your child.

Your baby is

a person.

When choosing a name, the most important thing is to contextualize this name into your baby’s real, human life.

They will be an infant for so little time. After that, they become a child who lives in the real world and gets called on at school or befriended on the soccer field. Someday, your child will be an adult who needs to carry their name with pride, use their name in real-world interactions, and embrace the lore and legacy of their name.

While names can always be changed, this choice should be taken seriously, made with love, and considered thoughtfully from multiple angles.

I wrote an article on some factors parents should consider when naming their child. Read it below >>>

Guarantees & Policies

A common question is: “How can I be sure that you (or anyone else) can help me figure this out, especially with the limited timeframe I’m working with?”

UNLIMITED SUPPORT FOR THE ACTIVE PERIOD

Until your baby has arrived and absolutely requires a name, I will work on pursuing the perfect name. I’ll dig further or return to the drawing board infinitely until time runs out on our little project.

There’s no limit to the time we spend, the amount of messages we exchange, or how many lists or names I end up sending for you to react to.

AN EXPERT APPROACH AND GUIDED FEEDBACK PROCESS

I won’t simply dump a curated list on your doorstep and forget about you. I take you through a feedback and refinement process that helps you cull things down, interrogate your preferences, and choose.

I also run our shortlist through several checkpoints, to ensure cultural sensitivity, analyze potentially unwanted nicknames or monograms, and look for any potential pop culture or historical references that threaten the positive connotation of each name.

SACRED, HUMANISTIC,

AND HAND-HELD APPROACH

No portion of this is done by AI or some third-party tool. I don't use traditional baby name books. My process includes full and comprehensive research, spiritual channeling, linguistic depth of field, et al.

So, you aren't paying for a product, but a sacred experience that many parents describe as very special, unique, and part of their family's story. I take your baby’s name ALMOST as meaningfully as you do. I want this to be good for you.

"Kayla changed the way we thought about naming our baby. Initially we just wanted a name that sounded good with our long, clunky last name. We found that, but also found a deeper meaning for our child's name, and we're so proud of what we chose together. We will choose NYM again if we're lucky enough to have another child."

"When we found out we were having triplets, we knew we wanted to hire a name consultant. How do you choose three first and middle names that blend, but do not rhyme or feel too matchy?? Kayla spent 4 weeks sending over names, creating triangles and connections that helped us see how names could fit together, but also reminding us that our triplets won't be a "unit" forever -- they each need a name that can stand on its own. That took the pressure off of "naming triplets" and it just became "naming three children." We actually started to see the entire process of raising triplets differently. Families with multiples should def. work with NYM."

"This process was so fun. We have 2 kids already and wanted baby #3 to fit in really well with names we already love. Kayla was great. Our biggest issue was she found TOO MANY names we loved. Luckily there was a process to narrow it down. It was so fun getting the emails with lists, Jared and I made it into a mini-date to get together and review them over lunch each time using the review process that Kayla taught us. So fun. Highly recommend."
